OBED EDOM: A THREE-MONTH CONSECRATION UNTO THE LORD

OBED- EDOM: HOW WE ARRIVED AT THE THREE-MONTH CONSECRATION

The inspiration for our Three-Month Consecration comes directly from the biblical account of Obed-Edom.

2 Samuel 6:11

“And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obed-Edom, and all his household.”

When David temporarily halted the transportation of the Ark of the Covenant, the Ark was taken into the house of Obed-Edom. During those three months, the blessing of God rested not only upon Obed-Edom personally, but upon his entire household.

The Ark represented the manifest presence, glory, government, and covenant of God among His people. Wherever the Ark rested according to divine order, blessing followed.

The word of the Lord to us is simple:

TAKE THE GLORY INTO YOUR HOUSE.

For many years, the church has emphasized gathering in buildings. While public assembly remains important and biblical, God is once again drawing our attention to the household as a primary place of spiritual formation, worship, discipleship, and divine visitation.

The first church met in homes.

Acts 2:46

“And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house…”

Romans 16:5

“Likewise greet the church that is in their house.”

God has always desired households that host His presence.

Noah built a household.

Abraham built a household.

Joshua led a household.

Joshua 24:15

“…but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

The Three-Month Consecration is therefore a deliberate invitation to move spiritual activity from the church building into the family environment.

During these three months, we encourage every household to practice three simple disciplines that symbolize the Ark dwelling in the home.

1. PRAYER IN THE HOME

The Ark was a place of divine encounter.

Prayer creates space for God’s presence to be acknowledged, welcomed, and experienced in the family.

Matthew 18:20

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

Families should gather daily, even if only for a few minutes, to pray together, worship together, and present their requests before the Lord.

A praying home becomes a dwelling place for divine activity.

2. THE TABLE OF THE LORD IN THE HOME

The breaking of bread was central to the life of the early church.

Acts 2:42

“And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.”

The Lord’s Table reminds us continually of the finished work of Christ, our covenant relationship with Him, and our unity as a family.

As families gather around the Communion Table, Christ is exalted at the centre of the home.

The table becomes a place of remembrance, thanksgiving, healing, reconciliation, and covenant renewal.

3. THE READING OF TEN PSALM VERSES DAILY

The Ark was associated with worship, praise, and the ministry of David.

The book of Psalms provides language for worship, thanksgiving, repentance, confidence, and devotion.

Psalm 119:105

“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

We encourage every household to read at least ten verses from Psalms each day.

This simple discipline fills the atmosphere of the home with the language of faith, worship, and divine perspective.

WHY THREE MONTHS?

The period of three months is not arbitrary.

The Ark remained in Obed-Edom’s house for three months.

During that season, the blessing of God became visible.

2 Samuel 6:12

“And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God.”

We believe the Lord is calling us to a similar season of intentional hosting of His presence within our households.

This is not a religious exercise.

It is an invitation to cultivate homes that become centres of prayer, worship, fellowship, and the Word of God.

THE TESTIMONY

Over the years, we have witnessed hundreds of families blessed and transformed through these simple practices.

Marriages have been strengthened.

Children have become more engaged spiritually.

Family relationships have improved.

Peace has increased.

Prayer lives have deepened.

The Word of God has become central again in many homes.

The blessing that came upon Obed-Edom was not confined to a sanctuary. It entered a household.

Likewise, we believe God’s desire is not merely to visit church gatherings but to inhabit homes.

OUR PRAYER

May every household become an Obed-Edom house.

May every family become a dwelling place for God’s presence.

May prayer arises daily.

May the Table of the Lord be honoured.

May the Psalms fill homes with worship.

May the glory of God move from the church building into every family.

And may the blessing of the Lord rest upon all that pertains to you.

Psalm 128:1-2

“Blessed is everyone that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.

For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee.”

The Three-Month Consecration is not merely a programme, but a biblical strategy for restoring the household as a dwelling place of God’s presence.

Our prayer is that it would become a consistent lifestyle.
